The Diploma in " Fetal Echocardiography" offers a specific education in obstetrical ultrasound for a deepened study of the fetal heart. The Diploma combines theoretical and practical on-site training

Educational Goals

Participants receive high-level education in ultrasound aimed at the evaluation of the fetal hearth and to make the diagnosis of the main heart defects

Specific Goals of Diploma

• To make participants update and improve their knowledge and skills in ultrasound evaluation of the fetal hearth and to recognize fetal heart abnormalities during different gestational ages of pregnancy
• To use 3D/4D technology (including STIC) for the evaluation of fetal heart anatomy/anomalies
• To create shared space for experience and knowledge

Admission Requirements

Candidates can be:
• Obstetricians and gynecologists
• Residency trainers in obstetrics and gynecology
• Medical doctors
• Nurse/midwives with an interest in ob/gyn ultrasound


The theoretical and practical parts are focused on the following topics:
• Embryology and physiology of the fetal heart and fetal circulation
• The guidelines of the main scientific societies concerning the fetal heart’s assessment
• When, how and why fetal echocardiography
• Use of 3D and 4D in the fetal heart evaluation
• Doppler technology for the evaluation of fetal heart anatomy/anomaly
• Main heart defects in the fetus
• Echocardiography and first trimester of pregnancy
• Counseling of main fetal heart defects


After attending the course and passing the final examination, the participants receive a diploma in “Fetal Echocardiography”
